The Bio-Negev venture will encourage cooperation between different bodies involved in the biomed sector in southern Israel.

Minister for the Development of the Negev and Galilee Silvan Shalom today launched the Bio-Negev at the Negev 2010 Conference. The Bio-Negev venture will encourage cooperation between different bodies involved in the biomed sector in southern Israel.

Shalom did not specify what budget will be given to Bio-Negev. It will coordinate biomed ventures involving Ben Gurion University of the Negev and its trechnology transfer company B.G. Negev Technologies Ltd., Soroka Hospital, Beer Sheva Municipality, the National Institute of Biotechnology in the Negev, the Negev Development Authority, the Advanced Technology Park (ATP) and four incubators in the region: Maayan Ventures (TASE:MAYN) in Omer, Rotem Ventures in Dimona, Iris Ventures in Sde Boker and ATI in Ashkelon.

Bio-Negev is headed by Dr. Shay Yarkoni, who is also chairman of the life sciences advisory council of the Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute.
